The world we live in is fueled by oil. From filling up your car’s gas tank to many of the products you use in your home. We are surrounded by oil every day of our lives. This is a fact of modern day life that many of us take for granted. However, there is a problem. Oil by its very nature is a finite resource. As the world’s demand increases, the overall reserves diminish and cannot be replaced. While it is hotly debated among scientists as to how much oil still remains throughout the world’s oil fields. There is one thing that they all do agree on. One day, be it decades or more than a century from now, we will eventually run out.
But for the moment, let us assume that there is plenty of oil for the future. What then? You still have the environmental concerns from burning all of that oil. Nowadays it is a rare event to go more than a day or two without hearing about “global warming”, “climate change”, “poor air quality”, or some other environmental concern that is directly associated with the burning of fossil fuels.
Just imagine how much more damage we could do to our environment if we continue on our current path. Especially if there was no limit to the amount of oil available.
So what do we do? What can we as individuals or as a group do to help when so many things in our modern world rely upon oil?
This is the question that we must ask.
This is the dilemma that we must overcome.
